The regeneration of the town centre will provide a transport interchange with bus stops located around the fringes of the town centre, offering residents, shoppers and visitors to Basildon enhanced public facilities and access to public transport.
The existing train station is also set for major improvements, both in the short and long term.
Soon, it is hoped that the area around the station entrance and taxi rank will be tidied up with new paving, lighting and benches to give a more welcoming first impression of Basildon when you arrive. This is part of the interim works programme being funded by English Partnerships.
In the longer term, and once the development partner has been chosen for the major £1billion redevelopment, it is envisaged that the train station will be completely overhauled to provide a more suitable ticket hall and access to platforms for a town as large as ours. Shops and cafes will spill out across to the bus and taxi interchange and into a public square, creating a better first impression for visitors to Basildon.
